ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
West Ham were reportedly eager to sign the England international ahead of the current season and entered talks with United over a possible deal.
However, no move materialised and it was claimed that Maguire turned down their offer in order to stay at Old Trafford, but the centre-back says that is not the case.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Maguire has struggled for playing time at United under coach Erik ten Hag. He has featured just three times in the Premier League this season, starting just one of those.
Despite his struggles at United, however, Maguire was called up for the England squad for their upcoming matches against Australia and Italy.

WHAT THEY SAID
"Regular game time is really important to me, it has been throughout all my career," he said. "The actual opportunity to go to West Ham wasn’t really agreed between both clubs and myself, so it wasn’t just my chance to say ‘yes’ and I’m doing.
"The actual opportunity wasn’t there because we didn’t get far enough down the line with it. West Ham are a massive club, my focus is still on Manchester United. I want to fight for my place, but, of course, game time is really important to me."

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Maguire will hope to be involved when England host Australia in a friendly on October 13.
